Christmas over the years has meant many things to many people. From Christmas carols to Christmas trees to Santa Claus and other exciting Christmas rituals, one important thread runs through the many cultures and traditions surrounding Christmas: has an essence of love, sharing and caring.

What is Christmas to you?

The beauty of the Christmas story is that it’s not just a season to show love but a season to discover a Lover and a love story written for all mankind.

The Birth of Christ was God’s final move to initiate humanity back to a united life with Him. God didn’t only move towards us, He closed up the ranks and the distance and reunited us with the Trinity.

Through the Christmas story, we see a God who would rather dwell with us and in us than give up on us. Giving up his throne to become one of us, born in the lowliest places for our sake; we see a God who would rather reach out than cast out. We see a God who would rather redeem than condemn. We see a God who chose to forgive rather than execute vengeance.

Christmas is more than just the carols and the family times out, it is first a revelation of the One who is Love and the One who loves us unconditionally.

It is the first line of a love story.

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

— John 1:14

God became us (flesh) so that we could become one with Him. Christmas is a return to relationship.

We can no longer be lost in loneliness or aloneness, addictions or shame. We are found in Love, nestled in the warm embrace of a loving Father.

This is what the true Christmas story is about!

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus: Who is God but did not consider equality with the Father something to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness, and being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross. — Phil 2:6–8

As we celebrate this year, let’s be reminded that beyond the Christmas traditions, an order was set by God, long before the foundations of the earth to reclaim, redeem, and restore humanity back to His loving arms.

This is why Jesus came and this why we celebrate!

Merry Christmas to you!
