I’ve never been a huge MCU fan, even though I’ve watched many of the movies and TV series. You’ve got to know something if you’re going to critique it, after all. Up until recently, I’ve never spent too much time asking myself why those movies never really got to me. I just disconnected my brain and mindlessly enjoyed two hours of CGI and heroes fighting up in the air.

They’re the typical kind of movies I used as an excuse to hang out with friends from college, and like any excuse for social life I never thought too much about what I was watching while I was in the theater.

Then Disney+ happened. There was no need to leave the house and be with someone to watch MCU movies anymore. While it isn’t the same as going out for a movie, it was the fastest and most comfortable way to watch that latest movie everyone was talking about.

And so I began to watch them on my own. This led me to actually think about the things happening on screen and why my opinion about them was so much colder than my friends’.

Is it me, or is it the MCU?

Originality is long gone
