Investigator generation

  1. Decide upon a name, age, profession, and pastime.
  2. You’ve six stats, each generated by rolling 2D6:
  • ST | strength | acts of physical power
  • DX | dexterousness | acts of physical precision
  • CN | constitution | physical resilience and health
  • IQ | intellect | acts of mental power
  • ED | education | acts of mental precision
  • WP | willpower | mental resilience and health

Find a picture or a song that represents your investigator.

Playing the game

Investigation

If someone looks in the right place for information or a clue, they’ll find something. Without professional or hobby knowledge, they get small info. With training or experience, they get big info.

Never roll to discover things. Roll to avoid consequences (you spent time, money, conspicuity).

Challenge

When investigators complete routine tasks, they’ll achieve it to their expected standards. If they’re trying to do something harder, better, faster, or stranger, they’ll need to roll for it.

  • How many people would it normally take to do this? That’s the Level
  • Target number is 5*LV+10 (ie. LV1 = 15, LV2 = 20, ect.)
  • Roll 2D6 + the relevant stat; compare to target. If these dice match (ie. 1–1, 4–4, ect.), reroll the dice and add to the total

Dangerous challenges

  • Failing to meet the target for a dangerous action causes damage equal to the Level of the task. Physical damage is subtracted from CN, mental from WP
  • Furthermore, take 1 damage for each 6 you roll during dangerous challenges. Overexertion is unsafe

Opposed challenges

  • Both sides roll; highest wins. Ties go to whoever was first to arrive at the session.
  • Combat is a type of opposed challenge. Tally each side’s total; the losing side takes damage equal to the difference. Using a weapon the target is vulnerable to doubles this final difference before damage is applied (humans are vulnerable to guns).

Recovery

  • Regain 1 point of CN for each day of rest, excluding the first.
  • Regain 1 point of WP for each week of rest, excluding the first.
  • If any stat hits 0, you straight up die.

Miscellaneous

  • Writing and design by Sean F. Smith
  • If you’re a bigot you’re not allowed to play it’s in the rules
  • Thanks to Ken St. Andre + Kim Holm for INSPO
