Ever since I heard Cooper Howard say the line: “Feo, Fuerte y Formal”, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Cooper says it while filming a scene for a movie, right before shooting another man in the face. It was a line written by new screenwriters hired after previous writers were fired for being communists. It was a line that Howard didn’t like at all.
The Ghoul — Cooper Howard after the bombs dropped — faces Hank MacLean (the villain of the show) in the final showdown at the end of the season. The Ghoul shoots Hank, grazing his face. The Ghoul says: “Feo, Fuerte y Formal” to him, before demanding to know where his family is. Hank evades The Ghoul, and the question, by running away. But The Ghoul actually let him go so he can tail him next season.
I have been obsessed with this line. Why was it referenced twice more throughout the show? Why did The Ghoul say it to Hank at the end of the season? Was it just a character moment between Hank and The Ghoul? A way to show how far they had both come?
