People hated this movie. Even the actors who starred in it. Personally, I don’t think I am competent and knowledgeable enough to criticize a movie mercilessly, so I try to be a bit cautious in my criticism because I think that every movie, good or bad, contributes something to the development of cinema.

I thought I could keep this attitude while sharing my thoughts about this movie. However, this movie tested my patience many times during its 2-hour screening. It was a very uncomfortable experience.

Dakota Johnson’s clumsy and sloppy performance and Sydney Sweeney’s elementary school acting are examples for conservatory students of what kind of actors they should not be. The reason why I am targeting these two in particular is that after the bad reviews the movie received, they acted as if they did their best and the only problem was the script and direction. In particular, Sydney Sweeney’s statement that she accepted this movie to ‘meet the top people at Sony’ shows that she has no respect for her own work.

The last thing I can say about the acting is how great Adam Scott is and how well he suits the character of Ben Parker. Like a flower in the desert, even in the midst of all this chaos, he makes his presence felt and makes you smile.

This movie assumes that everyone is a comic book reader and Spider-Man fan and doesn’t bother to explain any of the characters and events.

I really wonder what kind of experience people who are ignorant of comic book movie culture and just go to this movie based on the poster have.

It also tries to endear itself to CBM fans by showing that it was inspired by movies like Terminator and Final Destination: “Look, we made a realistic superhero movie!”

The only thing I can say about the costumes, action scenes and visual effects is that they are a bit better than the Power Rangers movies from the 90s.

The movie tries to cover its shortcomings and flaws with fan service and makes a fool of itself. For example, at one point in the movie we witness Mary Parker (Spider-Man’s mother) giving birth. Strangely, the movie gives too much depth to this birth and it seems more like a story about the ‘chosen one’ or Jesus Christ than an Easter egg.

Result

Although Madame web has an interesting subject that promises a lot and has the potential to create a new vision for CBMs, it is let down by awkward camera effects, lazy screenwriting and weak acting performances. All citizens of the world, regardless of religion or race, agree that Madame Web is a bad movie.
