PEGBRJE: ‘Clean ATTACK!’
End of the 40s
Clean ATTACK is an arcade cleaning game created by diadas, a German game jam developer. Created for the Bolt Jam, players are a famous window cleaner preparing for another hard day at work, unaware that they could strike gold.
Upon starting the job, players will use the traditional WASD to lower the window cleaner down the building and ‘sway’ back and forth to get better angles for cleaning. By holding down M1, the sponge can be ‘activated’ and a trail of cleanliness is created. The above picture shows a bit of it, but how the player uses the sponge is crucial for the amount of points they can gain. By making clean circles players can gain the most points, while lines don’t gain that much. The key is that closing off the shape results in points, while making a mess of the soap does not.
As players descend, they’ll notice that many of the stains to clean are nowhere close to the cleaner’s position, but swaying back and forth does not let them stay in place long enough to clean. Never fear, however, for our cleaner has super powers. By pressing space, the player can stop time for a short period, allowing for cleanliness shapes to be created and the dirt to be slowly taken off.
As game jam games go, Clean ATTACK is a quirky one that allows you to listen to the music, clean some windows and watch as the building people clap for your greatness. There’s a nice showcase of the visual language Bolt on display for those of you interested in the framework bought by Unity — it’s in a video on the itch.io page about the recognition of patterns, check it out if curious. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy cleaning some windows and having a good time.
That concludes page 49 of the bundle. I’ll post the software either tonight or Monday.
We’re in the endgame now. Oh boy.
