Last month, Netflix made its latest bid to become the go-to comedy platform with “Netflix is for Jokes,” a Los Angeles-based comedy festival that included hundreds of in-person shows and the catchphrase, “You can’t spell Laugh without LA.” The festival also coincided with the platform’s release of several shows and specials featuring comedians such as Katt Williams and John Mulaney.

I was excited to sit back and laugh, but most of the stand-up specials in May were very disappointing. If it weren’t for Neil Brennan’s latest special, I would have written an entire essay about whether or not Netflix is ruining stand-up comedy because, at this point, most of the specials that they produce feel more like money grabs than comedic masterpieces.

Due to my disappointment, I’ve been checking out some shows on the other go-to comedy platforms. I was excited to discover that Prime had just released a new special from one of my favorite comedians, Marlon Wayans.
