Superman is the most influential superhero of all time. He’s the first character that comes to mind when you hear the word and is one of the most recognizable pop cultural figures ever. Naturally, there are a lot of Superman knock-offs that function as a stock-character or a vessel to parody/comment on the archetype.

You get guys like Homelander from The Boys who was created to a) show how terrifying Superman would be if he were an ass**** and b) make commentary about the corruptive nature of power. On the other side of the spectrum, you get something like The Powerpuff Girls; a cute, action-packed show centered around three adorable superpowered girls.

But every once in a while, a writer will create a genuinely compelling story for their Superman knock-off with an interesting narrative, and gives that character some depth.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you The Sentry.

The Sentry is a slightly complicated series published by Marvel under their Marvel Knights imprint back in 2000. The series itself is five issues but there are five one-shots that add to/complete the story…
