WEIRDO Reviews — Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania *No Spoilers*
Kang, Part One
The long-awaited third Ant-Man movie — which kicks off Phase 5 of the now 15-year-old franchise — certainly sets the stage for things to come. Though I’m biased toward the first Ant-Man movie, Quantumania was f***ing BONKERS and I sincerely hope the MCU keeps making their films similarly dire because frankly, I am now officially excited for Kang!
Jonathan Majors overshadows everyone else and stomps as the time-conquering warmonger, making you empathize with his goals and quiver at just how dangerous he could be to the Avengers as well as the rest of the multiverse. If the post-credits scene is anything to go by then the heroes of the MCU are going to have their hands full in the very near future.
If I had to nitpick anything in the film, it’s that the humor can be a bit much at times (which seems to be a reoccurring problem in the MCU) and the dialogue can be extremely corny and somewhat disruptive, often undercutting the drama in each scene. Nevertheless, this threequel is not the worst culprit of such mishaps and actually had me cracking up on more than one occasion, so it deserves some brownie points.
The film’s primary setting here, the Quantum Realm, is as weird and psychedelic as I could have imagined, complete with strange-looking creatures, sentient buildings, and giant jungle plants galore. Honestly, how odd this film gets is exactly what I expected from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Overall, I don’t really know what Rotten Tomatoes’ critics are smoking, but Quantumania stands on its own as one of the most entertaining MCU films to date. Sue me.
