After 15+ years in the making, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s passion project is finally here! Jam-packed with bombastic action and charismatic performances, Black Adam is a crowd pleaser from start to finish.

Marking “phase one” of a new cinematic era for the DC Universe, the film is as entertaining as it is bold. Within a tight 2-hour run time, the Jaume Collet-Serra-directed punch fest philosophizes the true meaning of justice, introducing the legendary Justice Society as a foil to the anti-hero’s brutal methods.

While there is some clunky dialogue and cliche story beats, the superhero flick doesn’t try to be “perfect.” It’s clear that Seven Bucks Productions’ primary goal was to provide fans with an enjoyable experience rife with easter eggs, grandiose world-building, and epic battles. In a day and age where comic book movies have become the norm, this one feels like a breath of fresh air.

Though critics and general moviegoers alike might not see it as a game-changer, Black Adam is a memorable spectacle that deserves to be seen on the big screen. Furthermore, with a mind-blowing, chills-inducing mid-credits scene signifying Warner Bros. Discovery’s reassuring decision making, the future of the DCEU looks more promising than it has in years.
