Today is a special day, everyone! Not only are we finally blessed with the long awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+, but today also provides us with the continuation of the pop culture phenomenon that is Stranger Things! At last, we get to see the return of our favorite gang from Hawkins, Indiana, along with a brand new threat that’s proving to be their most dangerous foe yet.

Disclaimer: This review is strictly based off the first episode rather than the entirety of part one. However, once the series is completed with part two, I may give a review with my thoughts on the finale, so keep an eye out for that.

Out the gate, the final season of Stranger Things’ seems far darker than any of its past three. There’s plenty of blood, death, and mystery intertwined into its supernatural foundation, and the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, let it be known within the first five minutes of the episode’s whopping 1 hour and 15 minute runtime. With twists, turns, and head-scratching moments that will have you thinking, “What the f***?!” the beginning to this final hoo-rah into the nostalgic saga promises a plethora of laughs, gore, and horror galore.

Here we catch up with the Party, aka the series’ core group of friends. They include Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, Max, whose possessed brother sacrificed himself to the Mind Flayer in season 3, and Eleven, the show’s telekinetic hero. Seeing what they’ve all been up to since the last season’s events reminded me just how much I love this show, from their ways of dealing with the woes of high school to their gut-busting interactions with all the fan-favorite side characters. The newer additions to the cast also hold their own with the OG’s, making the entire episode an absolute treat to watch.

By the episode’s end, the fourth season’s enigmatic villain is finally revealed in quite possibly the series’ most horrific sequence ever. While next to nothing is known about them yet, they seem to be the most dangerous foe our favorite group of teens have ever had to face.

All in all, I am unbelievably ecstatic that the Netflix juggernaut has returned, and I sincerely hope that the show goes out with a bang. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have six more episodes to watch before I curl up into a fetal position, impatiently waiting for part two to release in July.

Rating: 5/5
