What I Learned By Failing in Comics
For every creator on their journey, here’s what no one tells you about life as an artist
Way back when Myspace was everyone’s friend, when Facebook was strictly in universities, this Queens, NY native moved to the planet of Brooklyn with a master plan.
I was at the edge of the map, trying to escape the monotony of corporate America. After nights of traversing the borough with my camera, trying to find the light, after countless rounds of Guinness beers, microwaved Tower Isles beef patties, and hours of bootleg Shaw Brothers films, the universe sent me a vision — a martial arts superhero.
Like your favorite kung fu film protagonist who wants to get revenge for his dead homies, I set out on a quest to find the master or the writer behind one of my favorite films. I found Sum Dum Goy, and I was pointed to the master within, beginning my journey.
In 2006, I put pen to pad and started working on my master plan. I studied fiction writing, and a year later, my screenplay was registered at The Writer’s Guild of America.
