Why ‘The Bear’ is the Workplace Comedy to Beat

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations on July 17th. I was thrilled that my favorite show, Apple TV+’s ‘Lessons in Chemistry,’ received ten nominations. However, I couldn’t help but notice that most of the discussions surrounding the nominations have centered on the FX series ‘The Bear,’ which is primarily nominated in the comedy category.

This categorization immediately sparked an internet feud, with journalists and bloggers taking sides. Some defended the Emmys for categorizing ‘The Bear’ as a comedy, while others argued against the designation, claiming that ‘The Bear’ is a drama. From The Guardian’s statement that “The Bear is not a comedy and it’s time to stop pretending it is” to The Daily Beast’sFor Once and for All: Yes, ‘The Bear’ Is a Comedy,” there has been a lively debate between fans and critics online.
