‘Wish’ and the Power of Dreams
We need dreams. We have a desperate need to dream. Dreams are intrinsic to who we are.
The need to dream is so intrinsic and important to our existence as human beings that we forget that it even exists. Without the imaginative spirit, the real cannot exist. It is only through the realization of the imaginary that the real can come into fruition. If we cannot dream of the world then we cannot see the world.
The problem with being able to imagine is that we are limited by our ignorance. Our ability to change things is limited to our ability to be able to imagine it. There are those that will tell us that dreaming is a lost cause, that to dream is to lose oneself in a reality that doesn’t exist. Only objective reality can exist. Things as they are must be the way they are for a reason.
The rationalization goes as follows: If we accept the truth that first and foremost we are logical creatures, then it must necessarily be that all of our actions are logical. Consequently if our reality is constructed from our conscious choices — manifested in the form of actions — then the current way in which we live must be the most logical and just way in which we can live. If we are logical we will have built the most logical and just world, right? Right? It must be… right?
