In a season filled with jingles and joy, Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” has struck a chord with audiences, reaching №1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time after 65 years. This remarkable achievement not only brings holiday cheer but also marks a new era in the festive music realm, challenging the long-reigning “Queen of Christmas,” Mariah Carey.

Born Brenda Mae Tarpley in the charity ward of Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Lee’s journey to stardom began in the humblest of settings. Her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, evident from a young age, quickly garnered attention, leading her to perform in local radio and television shows from the tender age of 5. Despite the hardships faced by her family, including living in houses without running water, Lee’s talent shone brightly, earning her the moniker “Little Miss Dynamite” after her song “Dynamite.”

Lee’s record-breaking ascent to the top of the charts with “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” has set new standards in the music industry. She now holds the record for the longest span between a song’s release and its climb to №1, surpassing Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Moreover, at 78, Lee becomes the oldest woman to achieve a №1 on the chart, a testament to her enduring appeal and the timeless quality of her music.

Her recent resurgence in popularity can be attributed to a newly released music video for “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” featuring cameos from Tanya Tucker and Trisha Yearwood, and the release of her new EP, “A Rockin’ Christmas With Brenda Lee.” This resurgence highlights the multigenerational impact of her music, resonating with fans across ages.

Lee’s remarkable career, with over 100 million records sold worldwide, has been a journey of musical versatility, spanning rockabilly, pop, country, and Christmas genres. Her achievements include induction into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and recognition as one of the greatest singers of all time by Rolling Stone in 2023.
