414 Discontent is productive — but only so far

I grew up seeing ads for “milk from contented cows.” It was a catchy way for the dairy to sound progressively humane, and it resonated with viewers because humans seek to be contented.

Seeking to be contented is an active state. Being contented is not. If you are completely contented, what will you invent next? Nothing; you will cash out.

However, if you invariably fall short of satisfaction after all your seeking, frustration sours the goal. To escape mental overload, you must be flexible and let go of the unproductive discontent as you shift to a more satisfying goal.
