I Stopped Posting on Medium, But My Follower Count Didn’t Get the Memo

--

I noticed something quite interesting these past couple of months on Medium, and it is amusing. You see, I am one of the most unique content creators in the history of creators.

Here’s what I mean: I have this writing streak going on. Writing has been coming easily to me; I don’t even think about it, I just write. But while I’ve been writing regularly, I have not been publishing. The result? A backlog of drafts waiting to be published.

(Maybe soon enough, I’ll enter “a publishing mode” where I edit all my backlog and publish, but I digress.)

Since I have not been publishing, and so I don’t become a stranger to Medium’s algorithm, I have been intentional about sharing my $0.2c on anything I read on Medium.

It was something I shied away from in the past because I did not see the point of adding my comment to a hundred others under the article — no way would anyone ever get to mine so far down.

But these days, I really don’t care if anyone sees it. I want the algorithm to know that I am actually interacting on the platform. What I do is add a thoughtful comment, usually an experience of mine, or simply kudos.

And soon, I realized people actually saw my comment and clapped for it. Not only that, I see…
