Inside, Looking Out

You’ve heard about
the Frog Prince
living happily ever after.
I’ve heard it too and ever since,
I’ve been looking to meet
the King’s daughter —
Guess I’ve paid for all my sins
and they say tears
are followed by laughter.

Don’t judge books by their covers,
Just turn to any page and read a line.
You’re wrong about true lovers;
Not everyone’s nose is aquiline —
From the earth spring flowers.
Brush away the mud,
and you’ll see me shine.

I sit here all by myself.
Down here, where the sunshine
never comes through.
Gathering dust on the shelf,
waiting for the day
fairytales come true —
I believe in pixie and elf.
There must be a night when
the moon shines blue.

Lonely down here out of sight.
There’s only darkness,
and it’s cold, cold, cold.
Looking for an end to night
I don’t want to hide
all the love in my soul —
I want to give someone my light.
I want someone with whom
I can share that gold.

In the beginning was the word. And I got paid for it.
