Ask and Listen
How can you know the Lord’s will for you?
You have to ask.
The scriptures tell dozens of stories of God’s children to whom He has spoken.
From Moses on Sinai to a boy in a grove, God speaks to His children when they ask.
We should each be asking things daily of our Father in Heaven. He is intimately interested in the affairs of our lives. He has a plan for each one of us, tailored to suit our circumstances and designed to brings us maximum joy.
He wants to reveal that plan to us.
Elder Robert D. Hales taught,
Personal revelation is the way we know for ourselves the most important truths of our existence: the living reality of God, our Eternal Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ; the truthfulness of the restored gospel; and God’s purpose and direction for us.
President Spencer W. Kimball told us that “God reveals himself to men who are prepared for such manifestations.”
Prepare to ask by pondering, fasting, and living right. Give yourself the time and space to receive revelation (see 1 Nephi 11:1).
Prepared and humbled you will be ready to receive.
If thou shalt ask, thou shalt receive revelation upon revelation, knowledge upon knowledge, that thou mayest know the mysteries and peaceable things — that which bringeth joy, that which bringeth life eternal. (Doctrine and Covenants 42:61)
