Do the Work

January 2020

Happy New Year!

It is traditional for people to plan goals or resolutions each new year. That is a healthy and productive exercise, and reminds us of the principle of eternal progression. Our goals often require and inspire a renewed spirit of work.

Could there be any work more important than the work of salvation? You were all prepared to come to earth “to labor in [the] vineyard for the salvation of the souls of men.” (Doctrine and Covenants 138:56.

What kind of labor are we called to perform?

Handbook 2, Administering the Church (available in the Gospel Library app) outlines the five components of the work of salvation:

1. Member Missionary Work

2. Convert Retention

3. Activation

4. Temple and Family History Work

5. Teaching the Gospel

During sacrament meetings throughout 2020 we will emphasize the work of salvation for God’s children in our part of the vineyard.

Each one of the five components helps us to think about what our brothers and sisters need to return to Him. Perhaps you have a neighbor who has not been to church for many years. Or an ancestor who has not received the saving ordinance of baptism.

There is work to do!

This year, please make a goal that will help someone else get closer to salvation.

It will surely help you too!
