THG Hosting recommends that each of our clients maintain complete data backups. Data backups are used to restore data in the event of data loss or for disaster recovery. Data loss can occur due to corruption or data breach, user errors, or unavoidable hardware failure.
Please note that you must store a backup outside of your server for it to be considered completely secure. A saved file within your server will not protect you in the event of data loss.
Traditional backup management approaches include application or streaming-based backup. The server will push your data to the backup solution. The backup agent will first make sure that the connection is completely secure before ingesting and optimizing data. Optimization methods can include file or directory indexing, deduplication and compression measures, and secure data encryption.
Introducing R1Soft Continuous Data Protection
We have partnered with R1Soft, a leading backup service provider for efficient and affordable backup solutions. Their proprietary block-level backup capabilities allow THG Hosting clients to create secure data backups in the frequency and size of their choice.
R1Soft has allowed us to drastically minimize the system resources used to create backups. Block-level backups bypass the file system and receive data directly from the volume or disk. This means that you can transfer data at a much higher speed and with less disk usage. You can easily set daily, or even hourly, backups without a noticeably increased load.

How to add backups to THG Hosting accounts:
Our easy-to-use control panel makes it easy to add backup solutions to your THG Hosting account. In just a few steps you can customize your backup frequency and size without submitting a ticket or calling into support.
Simply log into your account with your username and password, navigate to the Dedicated Servers tab, and click the server you would like to add a backup solution to. Click the button labeled Configure Backup Protection. Then choose the amount of storage quota you would like to add to your account.
Once you have selected your backup specifications, simply click Buy Now and enter the root credentials for your server. If you do not have access to your server’s root credentials, please contact our expert support team. Click Purchase and Deploy to finalize your R1Soft backup solution.
The backup agent will soon be installed on your THG Hosting account. So, when this process is complete, you will be presented with a scheduling screen. All that’s left to do is select the details of your backup schedule including frequency.
