I’m Tired of Writing About Very Serious Things

There is a lot of serious stuff going on in the world today. Whether it’s politics, human rights, feminism, or any number of other things, we are all very focused on Very Serious Things a lot lately.

That said, I am not going to focus on Very Serious Things today. No, today I am going to write about things that make me happy. They probably won’t be connected to each other, but they all make me happy nonetheless.

First, I love seeing cute relationships in fiction, especially those that are more representative of those who are more marginalized than I, a straight cis white man. My current favorite couple is Luz Noceda and Amity Blight in the show The Owl House, which was tragically cut short by shortsighted Disney execs. I love The Owl House, not least of which because it’s super-gay in all the best ways, and representation makes me happy.

I’ve also seen a bunch of clips from the Netflix version of She-Ra, and the relationship between Adora and Catra feels similarly good even though I haven’t seen the whole series. The assorted other representation there also makes me happy for a variety of reasons.

Steven Universe also makes me happy for its representation, and while I don’t have a particular couple in that show that…
