There are a lot of challenges to being neurodivergent. One of those challenges is having a hard time regulating your body — or even remembering to regulate your body. The things that we’re supposed to do all the time in order to have a good, balanced life can fall by the wayside when you’re dealing with crippling anxiety or depression.

It’s not just anxiety and depression, though, that cause us to dysregulate. Sometimes, mania and hyperfixation cause us to forget to do the things that we need to do. Other times, what seems like basic stress can cause us to lose all executive functioning. For some of us, we just plain lose track of things and forget because our brains are wired a bit differently and we have no sense of the passage of linear time.

Unfortunately, this dysregulation can really do a number on us. We have panic attacks, get stressed out over little things, or just generally stop functioning completely. Sometimes, we get angry and lash out at the people we love, and other times, we fall into a cycle of self-deprecation and self-loathing.
