Things I Did and Learned Today #2

Macronutrients

Last night, MyFitnessPal informed me i wasn’t eating enough, when I logged just 1,293 calories for the day, minus 500 calorie burn from working out. Ok probably true, but I’m not going to suffer malnutrition for doing this for a week or so. It’s an experiment, a body hack.

But I did go look at my macronutrient consumption ratios from the past couple days: Carbs: 49%, Protein: 29%, and Fat: 22%. These numbers were not in line with the default goals setup in MyFitnessPal. Since I’m trying to follow an ad hoc low carb, high protein diet, I started investigating other recommended ratios. The numbers are all over the place! I put together a spreadsheet here.

Bottom line: I adjusted my goals to: Carbs: 40%, Protein: 30%, Fat: 30%. That means I’ll increase my daily calorie intake a bit by eating more fat, like putting a yolk back into my breakfast eggs, more nuts, non-Lite salad dressing, olive oil, or more meats and fish.

Kittens

It started when my eldest daughter, Rayna, who lives in L.A., was offered to adopt a stray kitten at work last week. Since then my wife, Lisa, has been crazed about getting a kitten ourselves.

Lisa researched breeders in New Hampshire, found a couple possibilities on-line, and went down south today with my youngest daughter, Shira, to check them out. The first, a Seal Point Siamese, was just too cute and beautiful (female) to pass up and she decided to buy her, putting down a deposit. She’ll be weaned and ready in a few weeks.

Then they went to the second breeder, and once again, was seduced. Lisa called me to see if I was OK with getting two? “eh, Sure!” So this one, male, already weaned and ready to go, came home with them tonight! Everyone’s very excited. Especially the dog. Especially the dog. Especially the dog, Nikki… ☺
