Villeroy & Boch Piemont Cutlery

Elegant & minimal

A WOW! auction on eBay tempted me to take a closer look at this beautiful piece of cutlery. I was thinking about aquiring cutlery for quite some time now but I was more fancying with WMF’s Taika series so far. But the eBay offer made me curious.

Each set comes in a separate box

For me Villeroy & Boch was more a name and synonym
associated with porcelain rather than metal products.

The design of the cutlery is very minimal yet friendly by its softened edges. The proportions and the elongated forms of each piece contribute to the cutlery’s overall elegant appearance. The contour lines of each item flow harmoniously and create always a well balanced appearance no matter the perspective. Everyone who designed cutlery before knows how hard this subtle detail can get.

The knife features a nicely designed blade that is part of the handle and not a separate piece like in many other cutleries, which makes an additional gap line necessary which oftentimes weakens the overall ascetics of the object.

From a surface quality standpoint there is still some room for improvement which becomes most obvious on the inner surfaces of the spoons. With strong contrasting lights (like in the images) you can see that the lines are not perfectly continuous. Of course this is only a very little detail unimportant to most people.

All pieces feel very well and solid in one’s hands and most importantly all pieces feel nice in your mouth. I know this sounds ridiculous but so many visually nice designed cutlery pieces are only nice up until the moment you put them to work and you realize that this spoon or this fork feels somehow “edgy”. In terms of design I define this as absolute failure for a product in this category if this happens.

So the more I am positively surprised to experience my new cutlery to feel the same way it looks — smooth and well balanced.

The logo on the blade is not perfectly itched

This set (24 pieces) of 18/10 stainless steel cutlery from Villeroy & Boch comes normally for a retail price of 199€. During the WOW! auction I was lucky to get my hands on it for just 44€.

In general I am very happy with this set and I can only recommend it. I already started to complement the line with additional pieces (cake forks, etc.) from the same series.
