Being Cheerful About Difficulties

(I’m writing something every day for #100days. This is post 7/100.)

At last year’s Annual General meeting of the Daily Journal, Charlie Munger said the following about the company’s board:

“I think you all would have liked the board meeting we had before we came in here. The people strike me as honorable, intelligent and cheerful about the difficulties of this very difficult business, which are a whole lot of bureaucracies, governmental in nature, with a whole lot of different consultants influencing the customer.”

Munger’s description was striking. Life is a series of problems to be solved, and unless you can learn to be cheerful about their difficulties, you can find yourself very miserable indeed.

Obviously, this is an easy aspiration to share and a hard reality to abide.
