If you haven’t already, here’s how simple it is to unfollow everyone on Twitter.
Scroll down until everyone you are following is visible (pressing the End key will do this quickly)
Open Chrome’s console
Do it now… then come back and I’ll explain why you made a great decision.
If you’ve been on Twitter for a long time, no doubt you’ve followed many people.
Some because you were told to on registration (Oprah, Jack, Ashton, Lance Armstrong). Some because you met them at a conference, they followed you and then you felt obligated to follow them back.
And some because they seemed interesting once and now that’s no longer the case.
Unfollow everyone and start again.
Every person you follow gets a subtle, but meaningful allocation of your attention and time.
You should parcel out that attention and time judiciously.
Make Twitter the right level of interesting (too interesting isn’t good for you).
Shape it to be a tool that makes you better. Follow people who can expand your worldview, who can make you smarter.
Then unfollow them if they don’t deliver on that promise.
When a TV auto-tunes, you get all the channels by default. You can’t help it.
Twitter isn’t like that. You can tune it to get only the channels that matter.
