Every time I tried to explain what I did as an instructional designer, people always misunderstood or were instantly bored. No doubt you have to have both a creative and technical skill set.

It’s not surprising that you need to be creative to be in corporate learning and development, but believe it or not IDs have a very technical job by nature of the software that we use. Sadly, we don’t spend our days teaching people pumpkin science.

And no just because you think you’re a “pro” in PowerPoint doesn’t mean you even come close to having the mad skillzzz that an ID has to have to troubleshoot why an image doesn't show up, isn't aligned or why the Engage interaction is locking up the entire course.
