The financial company who commissioned this statue received a “put your money where your mouth is” order from the US Labor Department.

They’ve been under investigation for several years accused of underpaying women and minorities on their staff. The inquiry concluded with a hefty amount due for backpay.

To show appreciation and support for their women employees, the executives commissioned the “fearless girl” statue for International Woman’s Day in 2017.

Asked why executive leadership contracted a statue, rather than paying their women and minorities identical salaries to their white counterparts, management responded like this.

The figure constituted great advertising which brought in more clients to the firm. A stupendous ROI. The company providing their women and minorities equitable salaries doesn’t bring in the bucks.

At least, that’s what management concludes. Besides its much more fun to design a unique ad campaign to bring recognition to the company and its executives.

Paying all employees commensurate with their experience and title cuts into their bottom line. And hence their disposable income and free time for golf.
