Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3: What’s the difference?
Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z devices offer two very different visions of what a foldable smartphone should look like.
Here’s a run-down of the biggest differences and shared DNA between the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
Specs
Both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 run on the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor.
The Z Fold 3 features more RAM at 12 GB versus the Z Flip’s 8 GB.
The Z Fold 3 starts at 256 GB of on-board storage, but a higher capacity model offers 512 GB. The Z Flip 3 starts at 128 GB of on-board storage, with the higher capacity option capping out at 256 GB.
The Z Fold 3 also features a significantly larger battery, at 4400mAh, compared to the Z Flip 3, which has a 3300mAh battery.
Camera specs is one of the biggest differences between the two devices.
The Z Flip 3 features a 12-megapixel + 12-megapixel dual-lens main camera, matched by a 10-megapixel selfie-camera.
In contrast, the Z Fold 3 features a 12-megapixel + 12-megapixel + 12-megapixel triple-lens main camera plus a 10-megapixel cover display camera and a 4-megapixel under-display camera.
The addition of the third-lens in the main array is more significant than it sounds, as it brings a telephoto lens into the mix. This translates into better and farther optical zoom when using the camera on the Z Fold 3.
Design
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 features a book-like internal fold design. This combines a 6.2-inch external display and an 7.6-inch internal display. Both of these are clocked at 120Hz and a resolution of 2208 x 1768 pixels.
In contrast, the Z Flip 3 opts for a more classic flip-phone inspired form-factor. It combines a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED FHD+ main display with a 1.9-inch cover display.
Both devices are IPX8-rated against water damage, coated in Gorilla Glass Victus and made from a special material that Samsung calls Armor Aluminum.
Only the Z Fold 3 features support for Samsung’s S-Pen stylus and an under-display camera.
Both devices also feature Dolby Stereo speakers.
Colors
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is available in three colours: Phantom Green, Black and Silver.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is available in a total of seven colours globally. Four of which are available to Australian buyers: Cream, Phantom Black, Green and Lavender.
