Harvard Economist Dr. Jeffrey Miron as First Interviewee on “Anslinger” Podcast
On Monday, February 5th, A. Rouse Production and Think Hempy Thoughts will release the podcast series, “Anslinger: The untold cannabis conspiracy” — a narrated story that exposes the life of Harry Anslinger and the depths of what sparked cannabis regulation in the 1930s. Beyond narration, the series will feature interviews with experts on the subject at hand. Episode One will feature Harvard Economist Dr. Jeffrey Miron.
Anslinger: The untold cannabis conspiracy — a podcast series
The first season will unfold from February 5th until April 23rd 2018, with twelve episodes total, spanning the years leading up to the Marijuana Tax Act, with a focus on 1930–1935. Each episode will feature an interviewee who is an expert on the subject at hand. Throughout the series we’ll uncover who was involved with narcotic and cannabis policy, why they were so keen on regulation, what was at stake and how it has infected our world today.

Episode One — Harry Anslinger, America’s First Drug Czar
Episode one takes a look back into the life of Harry Anslinger prior to his thirty-two year reign as Chief and First Commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics. We follow his life from a young kid growing up in the railroad town of Altoona, PA, to World War I, to his role as Second in Command to Prohibition. The details we expose of his early life are unique and some of them straight shocking, to the point of disbelief!
While we expose Anslinger’s early life, we also investigate narcotic policies prior to 1930. We glance into the first ever narcotic convention in Shanghai, which on February 5th will celebrate its 109th Anniversary. We analyze what countries were involved and who manipulated whom to create our narcotic framework.
Featuring Harvard Economist, Dr. Jeffrey Miron, author of “Drug War Crimes”
Episode one will feature Harvard Economist, Dr. Jeffrey Miron as he provides insight into the economic, social and cultural world of narcotic regulation. Dr. Miron is Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Economics at Harvard University, as well as Director of Economics Studies at the Cato Institute.
He earned his PhD in Economics from MIT and specializes in the economics of Libertarianism. He is the author of Libertarianism, from A to Z and Drug War Crimes: The Consequences of Prohibition, among numerous more books and publications. He has also participated in a number of documentaries including, The Union: The Business Behind Getting High, and The Culture High.
We are so thankful for Dr. Miron for participating as our very first interviewee and look forward to more interviews with him to come. If you are looking for a short and insightful book on the war on drugs, I would highly recommend his book Drug War Crimes: The Consequences of Prohibition.
The book is a fascinating read that weighs the pros and cons of drug prohibition, providing evidence-based comparisons through data acquired from alcohol prohibition. We will discuss this topic more in a later episode of Anslinger: The untold cannabis conspiracy.
