I’m a huge fan of Rachel Aviv’s work in the New Yorker. It’s really important stuff that’s actually quite hard to read, but compelling enough to make you feel like you have to.

Here’s a previous piece from Ms. Aviv about abuse in the Borough Park Hasidic community that blew my mind, as a non-Hasid who likes to think he knows a thing are two about Hasidism:

I really sort of wonder about the guiding principle of Ms. Aviv’s writing. Her writing follows a pattern that I can’t quite figure out, but very much aspire to.
