It’s no secret that the world has gone through a lot of changes since 2020. Life as we know it has been completely turned upside down and for many of us, our lives have been turned upside down too.

As adults, we’ve had to take on a lot more responsibility, from working from home to home-schooling our kids. But let’s face it, being an adult in 2023 isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

Here are 10 reasons why being an adult in 2020 is overrated.

  1. You’re Expected To Have Everything Figured Out

It’s now 2023, and yet society still expects us adults to have everything figured out. We’re expected to know what we’re doing with our lives, have a stable job, and be able to take care of our families. No one is perfect and yet we’re expected to be.

2. Zoom Fatigue

Zoom calls are a now necessary evil in 2023, especially if you’re working from home. But with all the Zoom meetings, video calls, and virtual happy hours, it’s no wonder many of us are feeling Zoom fatigue.

3. You’re Supposed to Have All the Answers

As adults, we’re expected to have all the answers. But the truth is, no one has all the answers. We’re all just doing our best and trying to get through the changes that are constantly coming our way.

4. You’re Expected to Be Financially Responsible

Gone are the days of being a carefree college student or young adult. Now you’re expected to have a steady job, pay your bills on time, and save for retirement. It can be overwhelming and stressful.

5. You’re Supposed to Be a Master Chef

Since we’re all spending more time at home, you’re expected to be a master chef. Everyone expects you to be able to whip up something delicious every night, even if you’re exhausted and don’t have the energy to cook.

6. You Have to Do All the Chores

You’re expected to do all the chores, from cleaning to laundry and grocery shopping. It can be overwhelming, especially if you have a full-time job and kids to take care of.

7. You’re Expected to Be a Super Parent

As a parent, you’re expected to be the perfect parent. You’re expected to be able to juggle work and parenting and to be able to home-school your kids while still having a successful career. It’s a lot of pressure and it can be overwhelming.

8. You’re Supposed to Know How to Do Everything

2023 will bring massive change and yes, you’ll be expected to know how to do everything. From setting learning the latest trends in communications and software to troubleshooting technology, you’re expected to be an expert at it all.

9. You Have to Worry About Your Health

As an adult, you’re expected to worry about your health. You’re expected to eat healthy, exercise, and get regular check-ups. The truth is, it will be hard to stay healthy in 2023 unless you make the time and take care of yourself.

10. You Have to Worry About Money

Money is a huge concern for adults in 2023. With the economy in a downturn, job security uncertain, and bills piling up, it’s hard not to worry about money.

Being an adult in 2023 is definitely overrated. It’s a lot of pressure, a lot of responsibility, and a lot of stress. It’s okay to take a break and take care of yourself. You deserve it.
