How Are You Investing Your Time?
#71 Start The Process Of A New Bread & Butter Job

Do you think you’re productive? Many of us think we are because we put in a lot of work. Yet, do we measure productiveness in the right way?
Lately, I’ve thought about how I use my time. Far too long, I thought I used it in a productive manner. But, when I looked at the numbers my perspective changed. I realized how much time actually goes into consuming, instead of creating.
Many of my hours are about investing time into books, courses, mentoring programs etc. But, am I productive?
Sure, I acquire a lot of knowledge. Yet, where’s the results? What if I’ve had put all these hours into actual action? Where would I be today?
When you invest your time into courses you think you’re taking action. But, actually, you’re just procrastinating on the real action. You know, getting your hands dirty type of action. Cold calling, approaching, programming, writing, speaking etc.
The truth
When you start to see yourself in a more honest way, then you get scared about how much time you’ve used up. The truth may hurt, but it’s worth it. Regret is the worst.
When I got real with myself today I realized I need to change something important. The career choices in my life need to adapt. Otherwise, I won’t gain the expertise I want to have in my life.
Life as a writer
Most of us writers need a stream of income from elsewhere. We need a job or build a company in order to support our writing.
What type of work we choose is up to us. But we can either choose something which inspires us at the same time. Or we can choose something which only pays the bills.
The dream for me would be to have something which inspires me, as well gives me the economic support needed. It could be a job or company, but it has to happen.
Find work
Today I began the process of creating a better career for myself. It will take time until I find the right kind of path, but I’m on it. I would like to have something where I get to use my favorite expertise, EQ.
Right now I’m thinking about doing some work as a junior copywriter. But, first I need to learn how to use Adobe, Photoshop etc. That’s more action for another day. If someone reading this is working as a copywriter, please give me some advice below.
Time
When I began to overlook how I use my time I realized that I need to re-organize it. Right now I invest 80% of my time into learning, and 20 % into creating. I think it’s time to shift, and create 80 % instead.
It’s going to be difficult to make this shift, but it’s worth it. It the end, the results are what matters.
Conclusion
Finally, after a lot of posts, I start to get more real with myself. Because every evening I get to sit down and analyze what I’ve done each day. It gives me lessons I would not get anywhere else.
Sometimes it’s scary to see how unwise I’ve used my time, even though it seemed wise for the moment. Hey, knowledge feels right?
But, I’ve not gained the results I want to see yet. And if I continue with the same actions, then I’m just going to get the same results. Pretty logical, but difficult to accept sometimes. It’s time to do the hard & smart work.
