Life Outside Your Comfort Zone

#24 Go To A Bible Study

It’s a strange feeling when you’re about to do something which feels unusual to you.

Your body says no, because your brain wants to stay the same. Change means work.

The other day I got an invitation to a bible study. I felt a resistance for it, and that’s why I went for the meeting. Resistance means there’s potential for growth.

The tactic for today was to first acknowledge my feelings, then just go for the challenge. I think I grew as a person today.

The Experience

I meet up with a person at the metro around 6 pm, then we went to an apartment nearby.

Once we arrived we got a warm welcome. There was four other people, and then two more arrived within 10 minutes.

It smelled great, and the table was full with food. Lucky me.

We started to chat, and after a while we began the bible study.

We’re Much More Than Our Thoughts

Everyone of us goes around with stories and thoughts. All these experiences creates different perspectives and viewpoints.

At this point we may have certain viewpoints, but who knows if they’re still there tomorrow? Just because a person is a bore today, it may change. We’re not our thoughts.

Sometimes when you meet new people you get along in an instant, and other times it’s difficult. You may have the same interests, or it could be the opposite.

Anyway, if you want to connect with more people, one of the best way is to find a similar interest. This will create a fun conversation, and who knows where the conversation will lead. Maybe a new friend or business partner?

The Study

We read different parts in the bible, then we spoke about it. We gave different perspectives and stories. It was great to see how much you could get out of small chunks of text. I’ve never before dig this deep in a text. It was instructive to see how you could read books in general.

Generally I realized the power of being in a community. I also realized how much wisdom there’s in the bible. Even if you don’t are a Christian there’s a lot to learn.

By the way, they were humble towards themselves and others. I felt this to be a relief, because they just wanted to have fun and create a discussion.

The Importance Of Having Social Circles

In today’s society there’s many people who feels alone. More and more people have less people to have a real talk with, and this can create a void.

I think it’s important for us as humans to express ourselves, and speak about what’s on our mind. Otherwise it’s easy to feel suppressed, and it could be stressful.

Once I began to express myself and get around ‘high quality’ people I felt rich. It’s almost like I would need no more money than necessary. Sure it would be nice to have money. Because then I could create more exciting experiences with my friends(and better challenges, lol). But I don’t need money to make me happy, which is a great feeling. Right now money for me is about opportunities and creating an impact.

Do yourself a favor and hang out with different types of social circles. My experience says it broadens the mind.

How You Can Apply What I learnt

  1. Find a social circle where you can express yourself. It feels great and you will find new peers.
  2. When you’re about to do something scary, just try do embrace the feelings. Be thankful for them, because it means you’re alive. After that, go for the challenge.

Sometimes I think back to where I was for 24 days ago, and where I’m now. In some ways i’m a different person, and in other ways the same. My mind has broaden a lot by all the experiences.

There’s many days left, and it’s mind blowing to think about where I could be within a year. It’s going to be a life transformation, and you will follow it. I hope you’re also going to make more courageous things, and I encourage you to write a comment when you do. I’m excited to hear from you. Take Action.
