The Simple Things In Life

#25 Clean My Room — With A Different Mindset

How exciting is it to clean your own room? It’s all about perspective.

If you go into your room, and there’s a mess. You will most likely feel a little bad or just annoyed by the mess. By having it like this, you need to create a mental structure to find things. Otherwise, it would be a pain in the ass every morning when you’re about to go to school/work.

Some people like it to have a mess because it symbolizes their mind in some way. In a positive way of course.

What I heard is that we as humans can do a certain amount of conscious decisions each day. This is why icons like Mark Zuckerberg wears the same t-shirt. Because he wants to focus on the important things in life.

If you have to create a mental order in a messy room. Then you’re beginning to withdraw from your ‘decision bank account’. What would happen if you always had a cleaned room?

The Experience

In some periods in my life, my room is perfect. Other days it’s just a mess. I don’t know why it happens, but I think it’s a reflection of my mind for the time.

Today there was a little mess in my room, and I decided to see this experience as something exciting. I decided to study on what benefits it’s to have a cleaned room.

A great way to create a boring activity is to get a context about it. For example, if you’re walking in a city, and you’re bored. Try to search for some interesting stories about the city. Then visit the places where it happened. All the sudden the city came alive.

Art creation

When you’re creating some type art, do you like it to be messy or classy around you?

There’s no right or wrong answer to this question. My intuition says you should experiment to find what environment suits you best.

The cleaned room

Now I’m sitting in my room and I feel my mind being more clear and focused. Just by the impact of my environment.

I’m going to try my best to have a room like this every day. But as soon as it starts to change, I’m going to ask myself ‘what’s my mind like right now?’. Maybe you’re in a period where you want it to be a mess, or maybe it is just laziness.

How You Can Apply What I Learned

1. Some days you don’t need to do anything big or spectacular to feel good. When you’re just able to enjoy the small things in life. All the sudden greater experiences will feel even better. Try to make the ordinary things funnier.
 2. Clean your room, lol.

Now when I have done this small thing, I can begin to appreciate even greater things this Friday. The great thing about life is that you choose how you’re going to look at it. There’re many different lenses to choose, try to find the best ones, or just change around time to time. It’s all about experimenting.

Write a comment below about a small thing you’re going to try enjoy.
