  • well flavoring from aniseed tastes really similar to licorice
  • more specifically
  • its essential oil tastes like licorice
  • aniseed is used in everything from black jelly beans to champurrado
  • which is similar to hot chocolate and is a digestive taken after meals in India
  • the ancient Romans took a liking to aniseed and its digestive qualities
  • they even sprinkled it on cakes
  • cakes that were traditionally served at the end of feasting festivities
  • this practice was actually a precursor to the practice of having cake at weddings
  • it’s also used to make liquor in Colombia, France, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, and many more
  • many a nationstate has found a use for this one plant
  • it’s native to the Mediterranean and Southwest Asia

This versatile seed has been used all over the Eurasian continent. It’s spread itself by being useful to humans. We always think of ourselves as the controllers of plants, but are plants controlling us? Are they using us rather than us using them?
