Things in this universe comes in different shapes and sizes. All are unique by their own means. We humans got accustomed to a lot of things in this universe and we stopped asking questions and started accepting it, as it is.

If we take a list of things that we got used to, without asking questions, it will almost be in infinite numbers. We are going to deal with one from that long list.

Why are planets round?

We have seen all planets and stars, at least in photos. thanks to all the space research centers, things would not be possible without them. Planets are not man made and are naturally occurring bodies, thanks to big bang, which started it all.

One thing that every one would have noticed is that it is very common among all planets and stars to be round in shape. Although not a perfect sphere, they can be very easily seen as round celestial bodies. Why?

Very simply, the answer to the question is gravity. Gravity is a force, the weakest of all the fundamental forces in nature, but one with more questions around it. Mankind has still not understood gravity fully.

Although it may seem very easy stating that, gravity is a force that makes us attached to earth, it is a much more complex topic that that. No worries, science never fails and she will do it some day.

Planets are not formed in a single day, it takes huge time for nature to make it, slow and steady. They form when objects in space collide with each other, the process slowly builds bigger objects of mass.

The more the mass of the object is, more gravity it is capable of exerting. Gravity of the body again helps in attracting more objects making it bigger and bigger until things balances out.

Gravity is a force that needs no medium and gravitational waves travel at the speed of light in vacuum. They are exerted equally in all directions which equally attract objects from all the sides.

When the bombardment happens in all direction by various other objects, slowly over time, the object becomes a round and can be classified as a star or a planet based on its attributes.
