Atlanta is a great place to start your programming career. With startups like YikYak, Calendly, and Salesloft expanding, there are new jobs for those interested in getting into tech. One of the best ways to start programming is by attending a coding meetup to network and expand your knowledge. Here are a few Atalanta coding meetups that you should attend if you are ready to start your journey to become a developer.

  • Thinkful Atlanta hosts meetups in several locations in Atlanta, as well as surrounding areas like Alpharetta and Buckhead. Events are geared towards beginner and intermediate learners on topics like HTML/CSS, javascript, and important developer tools like git/GitHub. Bi-weekly tech talks focus on topics like “Getting Started in Tech” and “Building an Impressive Portfolio”, both of which will help you stand out in the Atlanta job market.
  • Code for Atlanta is the Atlanta chapters of the Code for America Brigade, an organization devoted to civic hacking, open source, and open data (aka hacking for good!). This popular meetup has bi-monthly hack nights that include presentations as well as hands on projects that you can join.
  • PyAtl meets every month for presentations and discussion about Python, a powerful and easy-to-use programming language. Every meeting tries to include something for beginners, and also to tackle advanced topics for seasoned developers. They encourage beginners to attend regardless of their experience level!
  • Women Who Code Atlanta is a professional community for women in tech. They provide an avenue for women to pursue a career in technology, help them gain new skills and hone existing skills for professional advancement, and foster environments where networking and mentorship are valued. Weekly meetups include code jams, panels, talks and more!
  • Atlanta JavaScript is a meetup for JavaScript developers! Although it is geared towards a more intermediate/advanced crowd, you can definitely still learn a lot as a beginner. They primarily host talks along with the occasional networking/drinks night. Definitely check them out if you are ready to expand your frontend knowledge.
