What does it look like to work in sales at Thinkific? We recently connected with Chantel and learned about Thinkific’s sales culture, what a typical day looks like, and how the team connects outside work! Let’s dive in!

What is your role at Thinkific?

New Business Account Executive for Thinkific Plus

How long have you worked here?

2 years 🎉

What do you love about your role as an Account Executive at Thinkific?

One of my favorite things about selling Thinkific Plus software is that it’s used by so many different industries and organizations. Not a single sales call is the same — every company has a different goal for their business but they all want to impact their audience and make a positive impact through education! Some non-profits I speak with have an amazing impact on their target audience and are making education more accessible to thousands of people around the world. It’s very rare that I speak to anyone who is local to Vancouver as we have global customers.

Secondly, I love that Thinkific has an amazing work-life balance with flexible working hours and a remote-friendly policy. This year, I traveled and worked with some teammates in Mexico City, New York, and Toronto! I also worked from England over Christmas to spend more time with my family. Other amazing perks include a flexible time off policy and extra long weekends in the summer called Thinker Holidays so we can make the most of the sun!

I also enjoy Thinkific’s social culture with virtual and in-person events throughout the year. I love Thinker Thursday, which is a company-wide social once a month — I have a great time connecting and meeting other Thinkers in the office after work for some food, drinks, and fun (like karaoke and trivia).

A couple of our team members visited Toronto for a week to catch up with our other Thinkers who live there!

How would you describe Thinkific’s sales culture?

I’d describe the sales culture at Thinkific as a fun, social and supportive environment. The sales team has become friends and we meet up for drinks and different activities regularly. We have a very inclusive culture and we all have different interests and hobbies.

While we are very competitive and care about our results, we aren’t made to feel overly stressed if we are having a lower performing month. We have a very talented team that really does “Give A Shit” (it’s of our core values) about our roles and performance. Our open and collaborative culture allows us to ask questions and learn from our managers and other sales team members.

One of the best things about working at Thinkific is that we get an opportunity to travel! I recently went to New York City to meet some of our clients and entertain them over dinner. It was an amazing trip and meeting people in person again was great.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day at Thinkific for me starts pretty early around 7 am as I like to finish earlier to enjoy my evenings. The beauty of Thinkific’s flexible work environment is that Thinkers can choose what hours work best for their own work-life balance and personal life.

Usually, I take most of my meetings in the morning to work with clients in Europe — I love speaking to people from all over the world but especially from England (my home country). Every Monday, our sales team meeting kicks off the week where we catch up from the weekend, and share what we’re hoping to achieve in the upcoming week. It’s always a very relaxed environment and involves a few jokes!

When it comes to selling, I have around 4 sales meetings per day over Zoom with potential Thinkific Plus clients. These range from discovery calls, follow-ups, and demos where I show the value and features of Thinkific’s platform. While completing my admin at lunch time, I usually have sports playing in the background and catch up on the Premier League. We have a few big sports fans in the team and we always like to connect about the results!

Personally, I work in the office most days for the social aspect but other team members are fully remote or hybrid. When a few of us are in the office, we also love to play several ping pong games.

Thinkific’s office is located near Olympic Village - in summer we like to go out for lunch!

Tell us about training and support on the sales team!

We have amazing outside consultants who come in and give us sales methodology training, like MEDDICC. This year, the session was done virtually and we did a team session in person too!

One of our core values at Thinkific is to Learn and Grow, so we’re always looking to level up our skills. We have weekly call reviews where we listen to previous client calls to get feedback from other team members and Sales Managers on how we can improve. Our team also uses helpful tools like Gong, which is great for sales feedback and training.

Our managers are so approachable and easy to talk to! They often join sales meetings to help me close deals and continuously give me valuable feedback and sales tips. At Thinkific, we practice Radical Candor, which is helpful for creating a transparent learning culture.

What is your most proud accomplishment as an Account Executive?

One of my most proud achievements at Thinkific was being recognized as the Top New Business Sales Performer in 2022! I was given a ton of credit and a shout-out at our company wide Kick Off event in January! After achieving the Top Sales Performer award, I made Presidents Club and had an outstanding dinner with our President, VP of Sales, and CFO at Thinkific! It feels amazing to be recognized for the work we do.

Also, I’m a huge sports fan and proud to have had the opportunity to land a few dream clients in the sports industry such as VEO who provide soccer cameras to coaches across the world!

What does the future of sales look like at Thinkific?

Thinkific is making huge steps towards enterprise within the Plus business line and investing in features to make our sales cycle shorter — we have some very exciting plans for 2023, like the launch of our branded mobile app! Such a game-changer!

I love and appreciate that the leadership team at Thinkific always listens to our ideas and suggestions — one of our values is Passionately Debate! Marketing and Senior leadership ask the sales team for our feedback to make our jobs easier and to help us sell more. This has led to improving our lead-scoring methods and investing in software and lead tools!

Our sales team has accomplished a tonne recently and has celebrated many exciting successes at Thinkific together in our mission to impact the world through education — cheers to many more wins, closer friendships, good memories, and growth!
