By now, you may have heard of the Great Resignation or the Great Reshuffle. People all over the world have been leaving their jobs — whether that’s a result of needing a break during a pandemic, discovering new passions or priorities, finding jobs that offer them more balance, or simply looking for a change.

The good news for job seekers is that, particularly in tech, there are tons of opportunities available! There are many roles and fields where candidates have more choice than ever when exploring new career opportunities. For example, Thinkific has lots of roles open on our Careers page currently.

You might be getting lots of LinkedIn messages from employers and maybe you’re in a position to consider a new job or a new company in the near future. Exploring a new role can be a big deal, so it’s worth it to take time to find the role and company that are the best fit for you.

Taking a step back and creating a list of what’s most important to you can help you determine how good of an opportunity a job really is for you. Our team has identified a few trends by surveying people who have joined #TeamThinkific recently, and we’ve put together some prompts to help you get started on deciding whether a job is a good fit for you.

Flexibility and Balance

Over the last couple of years, the pandemic has highlighted (perhaps more than ever) the importance of being able to find balance and prioritize your wellness, both physical and mental.

A few of the questions you can start to ask yourself are… How do you want to build your life, whether it’s where, when, or how you work? What do you want to make time for outside of work? How will you be empowered to take time for yourself and your loved ones?

What this looks like at Thinkific

  • Flexible work environment. There are no set hours at Thinkific — you get to work with your team to choose what works for you, whether that means starting or ending your day a little earlier, fitting in a workout, being able to book dentist or massage appointments, or making time for your family with school pick-ups or soccer practices.
#TeamThinkific isn’t limited to working from an office — our team uses our open vacation program to travel, camp, and live full lives outside of work.
  • Open time off program. Thinkers take a minimum of 4 weeks of paid vacation each year (on top of a company-wide break in December) and are often encouraged to take more! We know the importance of being able to recharge and take care of yourself, especially while working from home during a pandemic. This also means our team doesn’t have to worry about taking a day off to take care of their physical health, mental health, or one of their loved ones.
  • Hybrid team. Working for a tech company means that your work isn’t tied to a desk or an office. Our team is located all across Canada — we have Thinkers in places like Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Saskatoon, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax! We’ve also seen team members work remotely while visiting places like South Korea, Mexico, Ireland, and India.

Purpose and Mission

What are you passionate about, and how can you find an opportunity that lets you bring that into your day-to-day work? For example, when we have conversations with people about working at Thinkific, we often hear about the power of education, the impact of entrepreneurship, and even people who have been able to learn new things online themselves!

You can ask yourself… What are you interested in? What do you want to make an impact on? What do you want to be proud of when you’re talking about work?

What this looks like at Thinkific

At Thinkific, our mission is to revolutionize the way people learn and earn online by giving them the tools they need to turn their expertise into a sustainable business that impacts both them and their audience.

One of the things Thinkers are exceptionally proud of is the impact of the work we all do. As a company, we’re combining education and business in order to make a change. We get to support entrepreneurs building their businesses and connect them with millions of learners all over the world. Our course creators have been able to use Thinkific to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, deliver career training, and connect diverse candidates and tech companies — and that’s just scratching the surface.

Values

Our values are the things that we hold most true. They inform how we act, how we make decisions, and how we work. When you have a shared understanding of values with the people around you, it can make work feel a lot more effortless. People often have different ways of communicating, but where there are shared underlying values like respect, these differences can help us consider new perspectives and ideas.

You can ask yourself… What is most important to you? What are your personal values? How do you reflect and live these values day-to-day?

What this looks like at Thinkific

The values that our Thinkers are so closely aligned with are the basis of our culture. They were identified early in the life of Thinkific, when we were just 19 people in 2016, and they’re the same values in place today. They guide not only how we hire, but how we grow and work today.

Thinkific’s core values

Career Growth

The opportunity to learn new things and grow in your career is such an important part of your job, and that applies to people at all points of their career journeys. If you’ve already built a list of things you’re interested in exploring, whether they’re skills, new tools, or jobs, look for an organization where you’ll have the resources to explore that list!

You can ask yourself… How do you still want to grow? What do you want to learn? What can a company do to support these goals? Will you have the chance to work with people who you can learn from?

What this looks like at Thinkific

Learn and Grow is one of our core values as a company, and it’s one that we see in action every day! Thinkers are encouraged to share their ideas, try new things, and make use of our team’s learning and development stipend. When we test a new idea and things don’t go as we expect, we aim to look at what we’ve learned through the process rather than focusing on mistakes.

Feedback is a huge part of our culture here — there are regular 1-on-1s between Thinkers and their leaders as well as quarterly check-ins to see how we’re progressing toward our goals. As Thinkific continues to grow (we more than doubled our team last year), we know there will be more opportunities for our team to progress in their careers. In fact, in 2021, Thinkers earned over 100 promotions!

While this isn’t an exhaustive list, we hope it can help you start to build your own list of what you’re looking for in a role beyond a job title whenever you choose to explore new career opportunities.

If you’re ready to dive into these conversations and be part of building something incredible, Thinkific is still growing! We’re always looking for talented, innovative, and passionate people to join us. Learn more on our Careers page.
