After 9 fantastic years, Thinking Digital is proud to be launching the inaugural Thinking Digital Women conference to take place Tuesday, 1st November at Northern Stage in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Thinking Digital Women will be a gathering of innovators, creatives, thinkers and entrepreneurs where we share insights, ideas, experiences and stories that have the power to shape our future.

Our speakers will primarily be female but not exclusively so.

Thinking Digital Women will host a range of fascinating speakers from the likes of Twitter, Dropbox and the European Space Agency.

Emer Maguire who, as well as co-hosting the event, will be using comedy to unlock the wonders of science, and Meri Williams (CTO Moo) is a published author and sponsors scholarships to help more girls into STEM careers in her hometown of Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Emer said “The quality of the Thinking Digital conferences to date has inspired me to take part in Thinking Digital. I’m particularly excited about getting involved in TDC women. I think it’s so important to celebrate the impact women are having on industries like technology which were typically dominated by men. Women deserve a platform such as Thinking Digital, not only to communicate their work and celebrate their achievements, but to inspire the next generation of women in tech.”

Thinking Digital Women also represents a brand new collaboration with Newcastle University’s School of Computing Science, one of the leading centres for research in computing science in the UK. The new partnership has enabled the conference to take place, and a number of academics and researchers from the School will be among the speakers on the day.

Co-founder of the event, Professor Aad van Moorsel, Head of the School of Computing Science, said “At Newcastle University we are strongly committed to equal opportunities for men and women, in their studies as well as in their careers. The School of Computing Science at Newcastle University received a UK Athena SWAN award for our efforts in supporting the careers of female staff and students. We are therefore very proud to be involved in the organisation of Thinking Digital Women at our University.”

The event begins with a choice of great workshops and is followed by three sessions of inspiring talks from intriguing and captivating speakers at Northern Stage on the Newcastle University campus.

Thinking Digital are also working with YouTuber and video blogger Rosianna Halse Rojas to launch the Emerging Talent Fund (ETF). The ETF will recruit a minimum of 20 young thinkers and entrepreneurs to attend the event free of charge.

The event is nearly sold out with less than 10 tickets available, which goes to show the desire for an event such as this.

Herb Kim said:

For years now we¹ve been blessed with a long list of fabulous female speakers at the Thinking Digital Conference. So when the opportunity came up to work with Newcastle University on creating a new platform to highlight the contributions of women in technology, digital, engineering, medicine, science and beyond we were incredibly keen to collaborate with the University.

We¹re really looking for the inaugural Thinking Digital Women and hope it will meet, if not exceed the successes we¹ve enjoyed with the Thinking Digital Conference.”
