We’re moving towards Agile Working at Carat — and i’ve been tinkering with a code to create a chatbot which lets people know where i am. it leverages the amazing API.AI platform to make natural language processing super easy, and then handles requests from people asking where i am, or me setting where i am.

I’m not a good coder by any stretch of the imagination, but having some basic skills to explore, tinker and understand what is possible with technology is, i believe, an essential skill of a modern creative or strategist. they say a little knowledge is dangerous — and it is if you refuse to take advice from others, assuming you know how things work.

But if you dream, dabble, tinker, explore, play, poke, fiddle, doodle and do — and use that as fuel for getting excited, rather than jumping to a solution, then you’ll help to guide better work.

i see coding and playing with technology in the same light as reading — its about input, not output, and we all know that the broader the input, the better the outputs. its the same reason i’m just finishing up a woodworking course — because even in the digital economy, its not about the tools, its about the materials, its about the process, its about breaking things so you understand them better for next time.
