Doers vs Thinkers

Many Indian Software companies to the likes of Infosys, TCS, Wipro, etc. have been in existence for over two decades.

Usually, people here get too occupied with day-to-day tasks — bid for projects, understand requirements, plan, execute, deliver and support. Then, repeat the same for a customer after customer. This cycle never ends.

In my opinion, most employees in these companies have become

“Doers and not Thinkers”.

Believe me, they are extremely good at this.

In fact, a major share of India’s economy has been possible because of this.

Many of us are so good at execution, we often tend to bury ourselves getting busy doing the same things over an over.

I believe India can achieve a whole lot more if we become active thinkers.

Here are a few simple habits we can inculcate to bring this cultural shift:

  1. Read Books to learn from the experiences of others.
  2. Write Blogs to share your ideas/thoughts/opinions.
  3. Attend Conferences & Meetups.
  4. Ideate and Experiment(it is okay to fail)

Doers can be thinkers too.

Comparing to the likes of Google, Apple, Paytm and Ola; People there are not only Doers but also Active Thinkers!

You will see the difference when you have a conversation with these colleagues. Right off the top in the list — They often gossip ideas, not about people. They experiment and fail quite often. They Read Books and are vocal about sharing their ideas through Blogs/Vlogs.

The cultural shift takes time, but its never too late to start.

Hope this blog helps spread the word and bring out more “Thinkers”.
