Four Thoughts on “New Year Resolutions”
#1. Do not set “New Year Resolutions”!
People make a mistake of setting “New Year Resolution” and fail most of the time because the “NEW” factor will vanish faster than you think. People don’t remember what their resolutions were if you ask them in March or June!
Instead of “New Year Resolution”, focus on making “Resolutions for 2019”.
The difference is very subtle, watch closely!
“New” won’t be “New” for very long ;)
#2. Why do we need “Resolutions”?
All of us have various desires which we want to achieve. Most of these cannot and will not happen overnight and needs consistent efforts.
In simple words,
Your “HABITS” define “YOU”.
According to various studies, it takes about 30 days to form a new habit. But, for some of us it might take a bit longer, so don’t give up… :P
Think of resolutions as new habits you want to cultivate.
#3. Look in the mirror, often!
People get so much focused on the future, they forget where their journey to the present. It is always good to look back at your journey of where you started, what you did great and can improve going forward.
Seek feedback, that’s the only way to get better.
#4. Million Dollar Idea
These days if you talk to any college students they are like “Hey dude, I have a million dollar idea. But, I need funding to get it rolling. I need a VC,.. I need an office..”.
This is not just limited to students, even many professionals are in the same zone… This is a common trap people fall into and many of them even make it a “new year resolution” to come up with great ideas and build something cool, but eventually failing to do so…
I have always believed that there are no such million-dollar ideas, it is the execution that brings millions or even trillions! 😄
So, stop setting goals and start working on it. Execution is what decides if it is worth a million “Rials” vs million “Dollars”! #ExecutionMatters.
One example to illustrate this is Xiomi vs Micromax! // Same budget phones, same audience, but different results over the last 5 years! #ExecutionMatters.
Similarly, whether you read 10 books on losing weight or join 3 different Gym memberships doesn’t matter. You following a healthy diet and working out in Gym is what matters! #ExecutionMatters.
