Chaotic and Illogical Travel Bans
Trump is trotting out his stupefying travel bans yet again
Where’s the hew and cry this time? Trump issued a proclamation declaring travel restrictions from 19 countries. It’s not really a surprise; it’s just as he swore he’d do on the 2024 campaign trail. All of the countries in his 2025 list are from Africa and the Middle East — i.e., black and brown people… which plays well with his MAGA base.
Complete bans have been placed on travel from 12 countries. Restrictions are being imposed on 7 other nations. In this new set of bans, 9 of the countries on the list were included in the bans from his first term (2017–2020). The current iteration of his travel ban goes into effect on Monday, 09 June 2025.
In my estimation, the other 10 countries were just unfortunate to be his cover for the other 9 — particularly Iran. He’s been trying to start a war with Iran since before he was ever elected the first time. To all appearances, Trump harbors a particular hatred/fear of Muslims in general. Recall his call for a “Muslim registry.”
I also feel like Trump wants to scuttle any nuclear deal negotiations with Iran. It would give him a pretext for militarily targeting Iran’s known nuclear and military facilities. The…
