Trump’s FY206 Proposed Budget plans the steepest cuts yet in domestic spending

Trump’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 budget proposal is economic brutalism. It will be maximum suffering for every sector of our society EXCEPT the billionaire class, mega corporations, and the military.

At the same time, he intends to gut other discretionary funding by $163 billion. That’s everything else that isn’t Social Security or Medicare. He intends to increase military spending by 13%, while slashing non-military spending by 22%. He further plans to call for the steepest cuts yet in domestic spending for FY2026.

Non-defense discretionary (NDD) programs comprise domestic and international programs outside of national defense that Congress funds on an annual basis… in contrast to “mandatory” programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, where the law governing the program and the benefits it provides determines its spending.
