Ending No-Fault Divorce In America

Trapped by a system of socio-economic patriarchy

Some will always bemoan divorce rates today compared to some idealized past, ignoring the realities in which women were trapped. Mind you, those realities were the norm just 70 or 80 years ago. Few things cause more harm than when people craft policies based on an idealized past that never actually existed — trying to legislate some fairytale neverwas.

The greatest harm, in my estimation, is thinking divorce is a problem. The problem is the trauma of a harmful relationship. Making us remain married in such inescapable torment will kill people — usually the women and children being abused.

When people remain in bad relationships, sooner or later, it will turn nasty. It’s just human nature. When you keep people in bad situations, it’s like an overheating boiler… eventually, it will blow catastrophically. Biology and societal structures ensured that women and children invariably bore the heaviest burden of suffering.

The trauma that creates generational dysfunction is written in our DNA. Generational dysfunction is still passing through families today, often tied to traumatic abuse in relationships — including marriages which end in divorce. Humanity really has done little to address the social and relationship health of those families. Survival adaptation behaviors, which formed when we had no choice have become generational dysfunction.
