Protesting 101

The basics that some folk just don’t quite get

I had a wonderful day today, April 5th. In my relatively small town in deep red MAGA territory, there were two protests. The times were staggered, so I began the day at the one at the park, and after an hour there, moved to the one in the center of town outside City Hall.

Both locations had at least a hundred people. As we fanned out by the side of the road with our protest signs, it was an unceasing string of vehicles honking their horns to cheer for us. There was a lot of horn honking. Only three drivers (that I noticed) flipped me the bird.

Again, I repeat, this was in blood red MAGA territory. I would have been happy if ten people showed up to protest, yet there were ten times that many at both locations. I also was startled by how many people were honking their horns, waving at us out their car windows in support.

It was a good day, this nationwide day of protests.

However, I noticed a lot of people just don’t know the minimal basics of protesting. So, I thought I would write an introductory Protesting 101 article. We have plenty of protesting yet to do, and many people who perhaps have never given a thought before to showing up at a protest are thinking of doing so now.
