Wait, Are We Gonna Let Democracy Die?
Speaking for the left side of the issue
A conversation about why many of us on the left are losing sleep over what the right is doing — and what history has to say about it.
So, let me say it out loud: a lot of us are freaking out.
It’s not because we lost an election or didn’t get our favourite policy passed. It’s because something feels off. It feels like we’re watching democracy being chipped away, one news cycle at a time, while half the country shrugs and says, ‘Relax.’
But it’s hard to relax when every red flag starts looking like a flashing neon sign from history saying this has happened before.
“It’s not about losing — It’s about losing the judicial system.”
Here’s the thing: democracy isn’t just voting every few years. It’s the whole ecosystem — the courts, the press, public schools, the right to protest, and independent election systems. And when one side starts treating those things like obstacles instead of safeguards, we’re in trouble.
From my leftish perspective, that’s exactly what’s happening. Voter suppression laws, attacks on judges, journalists being labelled “enemies,”…
